ICT as an Informative Tool

                                                ICT as an Informative Tool

An informative tool refers to any application or resource that provides a vast amount of content and information to learners. Essentially, these tools are powerful repositories of knowledge, which can be presented in various formats, including text, images, sound, video, animation, and graphics. When we talk about ICT as an informative tool, we are referring to using digital technologies—such as the internet, educational websites, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and digital media—to collect, store, and share this diverse information with students. The concept is that technology allows us to access and deliver content in ways that static materials cannot.

Firstly, these tools significantly improve student understanding and retention because visual and multimedia aids help simplify complex topics. Secondly, they support different learning styles—whether a student learns best visually, audibly, or through interactive content—ensuring inclusivity. Finally, informative tools promote independent learning by giving students access to online resources for self-paced exploration and ultimately prepare them for the digital world required in higher education and future careers.

To successfully implement informative tools in teaching and learning, educators should focus on practical integration methods. This involves using educational videos and animations from sources like TED-Ed or Khan Academy to explain core concepts in subjects like Math or Science. We can also introduce infographics and simple visual aids (charts, diagrams) to simplify data or complex processes. A key strategy is to blend technology with hands-on activities—for example, showing a short video about the life cycle of a plant before having students physically grow one. This ensures that the digital tool enhances the lesson rather than replacing engaging, real-world activities.
